The project will help produce superalloys and High Strength, Low Alloy ("HSLA") steel, which is lighter and stronger than regular steel and used in structural, automotive, and pipeline applications. Additionally, the project will produce Scandium, a superalloy material that can be combined with Aluminum to make alloys with increased strength and improved corrosion resistance, and is also a critical component in advanced solid oxide fuel cells.
