Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., a private equity and venture capital firm with a focus on the technology, financial services and healthcare sectors and a history dating back to 1953, has announced it will no longer be investing. The company specialises in growth capital, expansion financings, management buyouts, industry consolidations, corporate spinouts, growth stage and early stage financings, and initially invests in a Series A-C round and opportunistically in a seed round. It invests primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US and Southeastern Canada, with typical investments ranging from $5m to $25m in growth equity financing, and between $5m and $10m in early-stage financing. The firm prefers to be the largest shareholder in its portfolio companies, with ownership in the range of 20% to 50%, and typically takes a Board seat in its portfolio companies.
