Houston-based medical device company Soliton, Inc. uses a proprietary platform technology to create a range of products, with the aim of lowering the cost of tattoo removal and increasing profit for practitioners. Soliton's first product, a tattoo-removal device called Rapid Acoustic Pulse, has been FDA-cleared for use with lasers. Soliton is also investigating the use of RAP technology for other cosmetic treatments, such as cellulite reduction. While the company has completed trials on this application, RAP is not yet approved for this use.
